Wilfred Leo Smith

	Wilfred Leo Smith, age 58, of 5018 Swanwick Rice Road, Pinckneyville, died suddenly on Sunday, January 28, 2001 at 6:17 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Emergency Room.
	Wilfred was born in Perry County on September 11, 1942, the son of Wilfred Xavier and Rose Mildred (Toman) Smith.  He married Jane A. Winters on June 15, 1963 at Todds Mill and she survives.  He was well known as a former softball pitcher, coached basketball for many area grade schools, was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Todds Mill, the Pinckneyville Knights of Columbus, a farmer and a press operator at the former Spartan Printing, Sparta.
	Survivors include his wife, Jane; three sons, Wilfred John Smith of Pinckneyville, Leo Lee Smith of Pontiac and Daniel Lee Smith and his fiancee, Abby Towery of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Catherine Yeager and her husband Bill of Tamaroa and Millie Rosado and her husband Bill of Carterville; three brothers, Joseph Patrick Smith of Pinckneyville, Raymond A. Smith and his wife, Linda of Pinckneyville and William Eugene Smith of Metropolis; one sister, Betty Offerman and her husband, Gary of Beaumont, Tex.; five grandchildren, Justin yeager, leigha Yeager, Zach Loyd, Kamen Rosado and Aaron Towery and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
	Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 31 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with Fr. James Van Oss officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery.
	Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville on Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 until 9:30 a.m.   The Rosary was said at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
	Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
